to those who attended Honoring Women Worldwide’s 6th Annual Garden Party on June 21, 2014. Bustling energy and great enthusiasm filled the room as attendees took advantage of the outstanding networking opportunities
and shopped our Vendor Fair for beautiful clothing, unique jewelry, skincare & health items, and special
gifts, as well as learned about various nonprofit organizations that were present. Attendees placed bids for the Silent Auction and registered for the door prize, a stunning metal serving bowl and serving utensils donated by designer Julia Knight.
Nancy Stephan, HWW Founder and CEO, welcomed HWW guests and introduced HWW’s new Executive Director
Dina Dukhqan. Dina introduced Jennifer A. Waltman, representing the Bush Foundation, our Garden Party Presenting Sponsor. Jennifer, a 2014 Bush Foundation Fellow and Innovative Facilitator, Consultant, and Wellness Coach, greeted Garden Party attendees.
Dawn Stevens, News Anchor with FOX-9 Television and Garden Party Emcee, introduced “Sister.” The musical group, made up of three sisters – Kjersten Dysthe, Alisa Leonard, and Kara Millerhagen – created great energy and joy as they performed their song, “The Girl Who Changed the World.” Their music inspired the audience to feel the energy and enthusiasm of women’s strength and determination, uniting and further engaging them in the events of the morning.
To network and get to know one another, attendees were invited to get up out of their seats and introduce themselves to two other women. They focused on sharing how they create meaningful connections to expand their success.
Following networking, Dawn kicked off the panel discussion: “Create Meaningful Connections to Expand Your Success.” Panel members included: Marta Chou, Judge in the Fourth Judicial District, Twanya Hood Hill, VP of Leadership Development at Ameriprise, Julie Loosbrock, Sr. VP of Human Resources at Deluxe Corporation, Kathy Magnuson, Co-Owner of Women’s Press, and Senator Patricia Torres Ray of the 63rd District. The panelists introduced themselves and shared a bit about their personal and professional lives, and how they developed the meaningful connections that helped them get to where they are today. The panelists were open and authentic. At times the room erupted with laughter as the panelists shared personal experiences of their journeys and meaningful pieces of wisdom to other women who face challenges, fears and discrimination in their work. Several audience members asked questions. It was an outstanding panel, HWW received excellent feedback from our audience and they want them back!
Philomena Morrissey Satre, HWW Board Chair and Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at Wells Fargo introduced Colleen Kolars, Program Co-Leader of The Art of Honoring Leadership Development College Mentoring Program and Director of Learning and Development at Travelers Insurance. This leadership development program is for first-generation, diverse, female college students and organizational leaders. Colleen spoke about the life changing experiences women gain and the outstanding benefits they received as mentors and mentees. Mentor alum Janet Johnson, Senior Project Manager with Boston Scientific, and Mentee alum Leslie Muzulu of St. Catherine University each shared their experiences and the benefits they received in the program.
Thank you to our amazing Emcee and panelists: Dawn Stevens, Marta Chou, Twanya Hood Hill, Julie Loosbrock, Kathy Magnuson, Senator Patricia Torres Ray! And thank you to Sue Hammersmith, President of Metropolitan State University for sharing her poem, and to our performers Sister for making our Garden Party an outstanding success and experience!
